Time: 60 mins,
Presenter: Amanda Stiglbauer

Objective

Teachers will be able to:

  • Learn tools for detecting media bias and fake news.
  • Evaluate the pros and cons of controversial issues rather than becoming distracted by rhetorical technique or political spin.

This video is available to view for EconEdLink members only.

In this economics webinar, teachers will investigate researching students’ use of social media and news outlets.

Description

Using tools to detect fake news, teachers will learn how to help their students weigh opinions and commentary from the political right, left, and center in order to form their own opinions. This interactive session will be filled with humor and demonstrations of EdTech tools that teachers can immediately use with their students, as well as an introduction to the Understanding Fiscal Responsibility lesson entitled “Rhetoric.”
