The Economics of Food: Evaluating the Efficiency & Equity of our Modern Food System

Teachers will be able to:

• Analyze the efficiency and fairness of our modern food system from the perspectives of multiple stakeholders including producers, consumers, labor, and the government.
• Examine alternative food production and allocation models and evaluate their effectiveness when compared to our large scale, conventional system.
• Explore the issue of food scarcity and food insecurity and discuss possible methods to combat these problems in society.
• Learn about lesson plan ideas they can use in class with their students to foster critical thinking and problem solving.
• Explore some EdTech tools and economic simulations to foster a dynamic learning environment.
